Waterproof Walls!
Due to recent fundraising and donations, enough money has now been raised to pay for the walls of Saints Christian Children’s Home to be plastered.
The walls of many buildings in rural areas of Kenya are made in wattle and daub style with a wooden framework covered inside and out with a mixture of mud, straw and water. This then dries in the sun to provide a wind and heat resistant base.
However this type of wall is not resistant to the effects of water, and during the rainy season which started in April, the walls of the home have been badly damaged by the torrential spring rains which simply wash the mud coating away!
This would normally mean a lot of hard work twice a year to repair the walls after each rainy season, and frequent re-coating every two years or so. Thanks to generous donations from supports of BoLK, these walls have now been plastered inside and out providing a strong weatherproof coating which should last for around 20 years!
