The Promised Land!
During our visit to Kenya in March of this year, Lorine, the manager of SCCH told us of her hopes that they would one day be able to support themselves by producing most of their own food and being able to sell some of the products to support the general running and upkeep of the home.
Although the price of land in Kenya is considerably cheaper than in the UK , it is still a big expense. It came to light that there was a plot of land next to the home which was up for sale. The plot was ideal for use by the home as an extension to their current land, as it backed straight onto it, and would be perfect for growing vegetables and keeping some small livestock and poultry.
The decision was made by the trustees of BoLK to make the purchase of this land the next big target in fundraising for the home, and it was expected that this could take the best part of a year to do!
Thanks to very generous donations received, the expected timetable has been brought forward drastically! The full cost of the land along with solicitor’s fees, surveyor’s costs and various administration has now been covered, and earlier this month the Title Deed of the land was handed over to the management of SCCH!
It is hoped that work will begin soon to prepare the land for planting.
