Bread of Life Kenya (BoLK) has now been established for 8 months!! We are working alongside our partners in Kenya at Saints Christian Children's Home (SCCH): Lorine, Rose, Erick, Willis and Martin
Bread of life Kenya (BoLK) has been going now for 3 months!! We are working alongside our partners in Kenya at the Saints Christian Children's Home (SCCH): Lorine, Rose, Erick, Willis and Martin. We have been amazed at the generosity and support that has been given to this project. And we are so thankful to God for paving the way in all that has happened.
Since we came back from Kenya in March 2007 we have opened an email and bank account and set up a website for BoLK. We are not yet officially registered as a charity, but we are set up as a charitable trust.
We have spoken in St. Thomas ’ Church several times about the project, showing pictures of our trip. We have also linked into Connections, the support and prayer group, which connects different aspects of mission and outreach that St. Thomas ' Church is involved in. In June we had a video presentation and prayer cluster evening at St. Thomas ', which had a very positive response.
As a result of donations over the last 3 months, we have been able to cover the costs of the following items for Saints Christian Children's Home in Kisumu , Kenya :
- Plastering of all buildings, to prevent damage in the rainy season
- Water and electricity for the site
- 4 beds, 4 mattresses, 4 mosquito nets
- Food and school fees for the children
- The purchase of the plot of land next door!!
As things in Kenya take longer than they do in the UK , some items will not be purchased immediately. We are currently working on installing water and electricity; once this is completed the next step will be to purchase the land.
SCCH is getting close to be coming officially registered with the Children's department, which is a big answer to prayer. Lorine and family are also working on getting a bank account open in the name of the home, so support for the children can be transferred directly to them from BoLK.
The next aim of BoLK is to start the registration process as a charity so we can operate tax-free and transfer money free of charge to Kenya . You may know that BoLK cannot officially register as a charity until we reach a minimum income of £5000 a year. Incredibly we are getting very close to this in little more than 3 months!! This is a wonderful testimony to the generosity of our friends and supporters - A HUGE thank you for all your support and prayers!!! As Trustees of BoLK we feel it is important that every penny donated for the children goes directly to them. In order to do this we have decided that we will cover administration costs ourselves, and will continue to do this for as long as possible.
Your prayers are very much appreciated; here are a few prayer points:
- The smooth registration of the home
- The installation of water and electricity to go ahead without any holdups
- Any involvement in the purchase of the land and all legal processes to go smoothly
- Please pray for the children who are sick:
- Lavin who has epilepsy, Eunice who is lame, Vivian who has malaria, Beldina and Vivian who have malaria and ringworm, Sharon who has lost sight in one eye.
- And also for the other children: Mercy for her schooling, as she is finding it difficult to fit in, and also for Maggie, Prisca and Esther. Pray for emotional and spiritual healing for all the children after the loss of their parents.
- For continued strength for the family in looking after the children.
If you are not on our mailing list and would like to receive our quarterly newsletter please give us your postal or email address.
Thanks for your support and watch this space for the next update!!
